Educational Programs

Nungin Sunwon provides systematic education about Buddhism to uplift the Compassion of Buddha, and propagate Buddhism in life.

First Class of Nungin School of Buddhist Studies was begun with forty seven (47) students in 1986. Now, the School became the largest school of Buddhist in Korean Buddhism, each class sending out almost 3,000 graduates.

Nungin School of Buddhist Studies

The School is famous to educate abstract and difficult Buddhism in easy and modern interpretation to bring
Buddhism into our life. Spring Class is from March to June, and Fall Class is from September to December.
Each Class consists of Day Class, and Evening Class, each of which is four (4) months course.

Ordination Ceremony - Incense Rite are held during the class term.

Attendance Check

Attendance check is done at the entrance of the Main Dharma Hall.
Lateness, absence, or early-leaving is not allowed in principle.
The penalty for absence of KR\2,000 is charged, and the collected penalty is used as scholarship
for student priests at Dongguk University and Joongang Sangha University.
If the attendance check is not done or 50% of the classes are missed, a graduation certificate is not granted.
The responsibility to check attendance with your identification card is on each student.

Lunch Break

Lunch break is from 12 a.m. till 12:30 a.m. A meal ticket can be purchased or
individual lunch may be brought. All food must be taken at the cafeteria in 3RD Fl. below ground.
Food or beverages cannot be brought into the Main Dharma Hall.

Cleaning of the Main Dharma Hall

During the class term, volunteers of the immediately previous class graduates
do cleaning, setting desks, and arranging floor cushions for new students.
After each lecture, students themselves should fold the desks and cushions,
and clean the Hall in turn. After the cleaning, all cleaning tools should be back to the storage room.
